Agents actually using common courtesy?
I just had to share this one. I spoke with an agent today who was completely blown away by the fact that I actually made a courtesy call to him in regards to a listing.
He called me yesterday very excited about a new listing I have and said his buyer was so anxious that he was considering making an offer sight unseen. (Which is crazy in my opinion, but that’s another story!) Anyway, he said he was going to get in touch with his buyer to schedule a showing ASAP.
Well in the meantime, I received a call from an agent who has already shown the property. She was calling to set up a second showing and commented that her buyer was quite interested. Needless to say, as a seller agent trying to get the most $$$$ in the least amount of time, I called the agent from earlier to let him know as a professional courtesy that there was a second showing scheduled for this afternoon, so if his buyer is still excited about the property - he needs to get him inside. This is something I have always done in my career in real estate and will continue to do. In my mind this is something every selling agent should be doing, at the very least with an owner occupied listing!
He was truly blown away that I would be so thoughtful as to call him to let him know this - his words! His comment was that he hasn’t come across an agent that nice in this market. So the other side of this is why show so little professional courtesy. Yes we are competitors, but we should be trying to work together to meet our goals - satisfying the client’s need.
I have to admit that since we opened up shop in this market, I have had a lot to get used to with the way things are done here in the “wild west” as opposed to the “mid (mild) west”. Crazy, because it seems especially in this volatile - highly competitive market that you would be going above and beyond in all aspects of your business. Common courtesy shouldn’t go out the window just because it is harder to earn a living in real estate right now.
Not to mention the fact that as a sellers agent I should be doing everything I can to solicit a viable contract or two on a listing! Isn’t that the job of a seller agent?
